The interactive indoor city ‘run by kids’ has teamed up with Nintendo to launch a new play-based educational activity using the Japanese company’s Labo platform.
KidZania London hopes the partnership will inspire budding young design engineers by stimulating them to explore different ways to create and invent.
The Nintendo Labo Workshop experience provides the tools and technology to make fun interactive DIY creations, play with them and learn how Nintendo Switch technology turns ideas into reality.
The initiative is a welcome addition to the Westfield White City-based KidZania, where youngsters aged four to 14 can already try out real-life role play adventures such as being a pilot, firefighter or award-winning actor.
One school that has recently incorporated Nintendo Labo into the classroom is Southgate Primary in London.
Teacher Chris McGivern says: “It’s a fun and creative way to access the curriculum. The magic of Nintendo Labo is matching a product with the opportunity to make, play and discover in such an imaginative way.
“Labo helps me teach and enhance core skills learnt at school including speaking and learning, Maths, Art, Computing, DT & Design and collaboration.”
KiZzania CEO Eddie Kemsley said: “We’re hugely excited to have Nintendo UK on board as a new partner in the city. Labo’s ability to encourage creativity and learning in children is something we encourage through all of our activities in the city.”
Planning for the new school term?
KidZania has plenty to offer teachers planning their trips from September onwards.
The STEAM Fair is taking place from 5th-7th October and aims to offer inspiration to students to develop Art and Design skills. Suitable for Key Stage 1-3 groups, various activities at the attraction will link to Technology, PSHE and Art & Design.
There’ll be a Business & Careers Festival between 11th and 13th October which will encourage students to build entrepreneurship skills as well as financial literacy. Also suitable for Key Stages 1-3, it will tie in with PSHE and Business Studies.
Parliament Week events will take place on 14th and 15th November and will celebrate the National week which aims to get the younger generation more involved in politics and gain a better understanding of how parliament works.
