The speakers expected at the conference taking place on 22nd November at the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley have been revealed.
The Council for Learning Outside the Classroom (CLOtC) Annual Conference and Awards 2018 will focus on how teachers and schools can keep costs of learning outside the classroom to a minimum and how to make the best of the resources available.
The conference will include a variety of workshops to aid teachers in learning outside the classroom and will also feature guest speakers.
The guest speakers
Paul Whiteman, general secretary of National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) will be speaking at the conference. He will be talking about LOtC across the curriculum and the benefits it offers for all subjects.
Matt Hyde, chief executive of the Scout Association, and Mei Lim, headteacher at Weyfield Primary Academy, will be discussing Scouting in Schools and how the Scouting programme can be used in schools to develop confidence, independence and enable success for all.
Emma Schofield, Outdoor Learning leader and assistant head at Boston West Academy, will also be one of the keynote speakers at this year’s event. She will talk about her experiences and school, which has moved from OFSTED ‘Special Measures’ to ‘Outstanding’.
She will also talk about how embedding learning outside the classroom across the curriculum changed the culture of a school.
The conference, which is open to teachers, will give the opportunity to listen to inspirational speakers, advising on LOtC experiences and how it can be implemented into each school’s curriculum.
Workshops available
The conference also offers a variety of practical and informative workshops to allow teachers to discover more about the different aspects of LOtC.
The workshop programme includes activities to develop skills outside the classroom and strategic sessions which look at key research and projects happening across the sector.
Workshops will also look at how teachers can use the local environment for LOtC, including school grounds, farming and countryside, to teach children about arts and creativity, heritage and the natural environment.
