The competition will give young artists the chance to have their work displayed at the museum’s latest exhibition launching in April.
The Young Artists Competition has been launched to celebrate the opening of the British Motor Museum’s latest exhibition, The Gallery 2025.
With a theme of the car and the environment, there are three age categories for entry: under 11s, 12-16 years, and 17-20 years, with one winner per category. Entries close on Monday 28th April.
The winning artwork will go on display at the Warwickshire-based museum from Thursday 29th May to Friday 27th June as part of The Gallery 2025 exhibition. The winning artists will also receive £50 worth of art vouchers each and a half day workshop with an esteemed artist featured in the exhibition, getting tips on everything from how to set the scene for their next artwork to how to succeed with art as a career.
More about The Gallery 2025 exhibition
The Gallery 2025 exhibition is a collaboration with Historic Car Art and will open on Friday 4th April featuring a combination of paintings and sculptural pieces.
Some of the UK’s most talented automotive artists including John Ketchell, Keith Woodcock, Emma Capener, Jonny Ambrose, Oliver Ray and Steve Goodwin will have work on display in the exhibition.
There will also be ‘live art’ taking place when artists will continue their artwork for visitors to see, working with a variety of media, including acrylics, oil, watercolour, pen, and pastels.
Stephen Laing, head of collections & engagement at the British Motor Museum, said: “It’s going to be an exciting few months for artists of all ages.
“The Young Artists Competition is a wonderful way to encourage artists of the future and help them begin to fulfil their creative potential. Displaying their artwork alongside established artists is an enormous opportunity and the winning artworks will add to an already stunning range in the upcoming exhibition, The Gallery 2025.”
About the museum and school visits
The British Motor Museum tells the story of the birth, decline and rebirth of the motor industry in Britain and the cars it produced, as well as celebrating the skills and creativity of the people who designed and built them.
The museum welcomes school visits for tours of the museum or to take part in themed hands-on workshops.
These are available to both primary and secondary pupils, and provide an opportunity to gain an insight into the British motor industry.
