The Story Museum in Oxford has announced it will be opening It’s Always Tea Time, an exhibition of artworks from across the globe, depicting one of the most famous tea parties of all time, tying in with Art and Literacy.
The exhibition will be running from 30th March until 7th July at the Oxford based museum and will be themed around the tea party in Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland.
Curator Viive Noor commented: “This exhibition includes contributions from some of the world’s best illustrators, including works that, until now, have never been exhibited outside the artists’ home country.”
It’s Always Tea Time
The exhibition, which has toured the world including showings in Germany, Russia, Italy and Finland, will now for the first time visit the United Kingdom, and the city of Oxford where Alice’s story first started.
Visitors to The Story Museum will be able to enter the world of Alice through an immersive picture trail, join in a tea party, hear stories from a giant teacup and enjoy a packed programme of related events and activities including plate painting sessions, storytelling telling and artist workshops.
Head of exhibitions at the museum, Lisa Mitchell said: “Oxford is recognised throughout the world as the home of Alice and we are extremely proud to be part of this unique international project.
“I have no doubt that It’s Always Tea Time will be yet another step on the road to fully realising our most unusual museum and creating a centre of story excellence in the very heart of Oxford.”

Schools visiting can enjoy a variety of workshops inspired by the exhibitions on display at the museum and free resources are available include a collection of audio stories from around the world.
