We take a look at new school workshops, launches and trips to get you in the planning mood for September.
Science Museum: Available in November, the new Engineering Alive workshops, suitable for Key Stage 2 pupils will get children involved with the roles of engineers and will look at how engineering shapes our lives.
Horniman Museum and Gardens: The new World Gallery has just opened and its World Cultures learning sessions have just been revamped to coincide with the opening. Meaning come September you can take your pupils to the museum for object handling, new sessions, curriculum linked activities and 12 new resources.
Winchester Science Centre: From September students can embrace Science and take a ‘guided mission through space’ as part of the Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium’s new STEM experience. The experience includes workshops suitable for Key Stage 1 to 3 and looks at topics such as sound, space, life, matter, robots and rockets. Pupils will also see an interactive planetarium show and space challenge.
Wookey Hole: The attraction has now launched Wild Wookey, a physical adventure experience suitable for school groups. Ideal for Key Stage 4 students, the caving adventure can support Physical Education and is led by an instructor who will take participants through different parts of the cave to learning caving techniques.
Bristol Museums: Secondary schools are being invited to a free event at Bristol’s M Shed on 15th October, to mark the centenary of the Representation of the People Act, which gave women the vote. Power, Protest and the People will be a day of talks and workshops to immerse students in the fight for representation, power and equality by various groups in Bristol and beyond.
A new exhibition, Fabric Africa: Stories told through textiles, opens at the end of June this year and provides a snapshot of modern and historic textiles from across the continent of Africa. Running until May 2019, the display, free to enter, features a selection of textiles and clothing from the late 1800s to the present day.
Polka Theatre: Look forward to brand new shows and workshops at the Polka Theatre this autumn and winter. Shows will include The Wind in the Willows and Three Sat Under the Banyan Tree. Workshops will allow Primary pupils the chance to learn new theatre skills and have fun with creativity.
