Wind in the Willows to launch educational resources %7C Anthony Drewe%2C George Stiles and Julian Fellowes

Schemes of work will be freely available for pupils in Key Stages 1 through to 4 and will include lesson plans and illustrated resources to help bring the adventures of Toad, Ratty, Mole and Badger to life in the classroom.

The production will embark on its UK tour from October, before taking up a stint in London’s West End.

Whilst on the road the show will call in at Manchester’s Lowry, the Theatre Royal in Plymouth and The Mayflower in Southampton.

The show has been created by Julian Fellowes, George Stiles and Anthony Drew, who last worked together on Mary Poppins.

The well-known story, written by Kenneth Grahame, follows the adventures of Toad after he is imprisoned for theft and attempts to escape so that he can defend Toad Hall from the inhabitants of the Wild Wood.

Special school rates are available for educational bookings. The Lowry is offering one in ten tickets free to schools, for example, while the Theatre Royal’s special school rate is £10 per ticket on certain performances.

Jamie Hendry of Jamie Hendry Productions, the company that produces Wind in the Willows, has been visiting Primary schools to celebrate the launch of the show.

He visited Plymouth, where the show will open and stopped by Prince Rock Primary School to hand out free copies of the novel to the school children.

This incentive aims to provide readers of all ages with the opportunity to read the original story before the musical opens.

The educational resources will be available from September 2016.
