The next Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank production from Shakespeare’s Globe will be The Taming of the Shrew, which will take place between 28th February and 25th March 2017.
The annual Playing Shakespeare productions are staged at the Globe in London and are designed to support the English curriculum for students aged between 11 and 18 years-old.
The 90 to 100 minute performances provide a full-scale, fast-paced performance and also allow schools to travel to and from the Globe in a day.
Schools can also arrange for a Globe education practitioner to visit their schools in the weeks prior to the performance to lead an introductory workshop on the play. Globe education practitioners are actors trained to adapt techniques from the Globe’s rehearsal rooms to make the performance more meaningful to students of all ages.
The 60 minute workshops will be delivered in January and February and will introduce pupils to the characters and themes of the play, as well as to the Globe theatre itself.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) sessions are also available for teachers from Shakespeare’s Globe prior to the theatre visit.
Online resources for The Taming of the Shrew from the Shakespeare’s Globe website will also be made available throughout the Playing Shakespeare run.
Schools should note that performances between 28th February and 15th March are reserved for Secondary state schools in London and Birmingham. Schools from outside London can book to see a performance of The Taming of the Shrew between 16th and 24th March.
