If you know someone who goes out of their way to organise fantastic school trips and learning outside the classroom experiences, then nominate them now for this year’s School Trip Champion.
This award, which comes with a £1,500 prize towards a future school trip, is designed to acknowledge the hard work of an individual who goes the extra mile when it comes to getting children learning away from the classroom.
At the School Travel Awards 2017/18, Jacqui Hargreaves, head of Design Technology and Food Science at Vandyke Upper School in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, was presented with the Award after colleagues, students and parents nominated her.
When asked about whether she expected to win, Jacqui responded: “No! I watched the clip in the official STO Awards video online of me after they called out my name as the winner. You can see my reaction, and it was just complete shock. When I was shortlisted I had no idea I would win, so to do so was absolutely amazing.”
Pupils, teachers and staff who nominated Jacqui praised her for the dedication and passion she gives to organising hundreds of school trips over the last 35 years – most in her own time.
At the awards ceremony, newsreader Fiona Bruce said: “She’s clearly a very remarkable woman and there’s nothing she doesn’t know about school trips.”

A shortlist of candidates will then be drawn up by the team at School Travel Organiser magazine and the finalists announced in September through the magazines, website and social media platforms.
Readers will then be able to vote for their winner from the shortlist. The School Trip Champion 2018/19 will then be announced at the five-star School Travel Awards luncheon and ceremony at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington, London on Friday 16th November.
